Corey Turns the Big Two-Six

Corey turned 26 on August 31st. His birthday fell on the Sunday of my working weekend which unfortunately meant that I would not be able to spend the day with him. I wanted to make sure that he had a really special day so I decided to buy him 2 tickets to the Angel game that afternoon. I wanted it to be a surprise, so I called his friend, Scott, in advance, to make sure he would be able to go with Corey to the game. I got up early before work and cooked him breakfast and set his presents out, including the surprise Angel tickets. (Yes, I did wrap the gifts in Christmas paper).

After everything was ready, I woke Corey up and told him that there were hundreds of ants in the kitchen and I needed help killing them. He enjoyed his breakfast for sure, but even more so he enjoyed reading the Orange County Register that was a gift from my parents. They gave him a 2 month subscription and he is in heaven reading the paper every morning. When he opened the tickets, his eyes lit up and he said, "You got the day off and we're going to the Angel game????" I had to tell him that I wouldn't be able to go but that Scott was ready and waiting for his phone call.

Because I worked on his actual birthday, we had a mini-celebration a few days before. Corey and I do not take birthdays for granted. This year was the very first time since we have been together that I had ever been physically with him on his birthday. It was my first time being able to make him a cake and watch him blow out the candles... It sounds silly, we are adults, but it was a really exciting thing to be able to do.

Since Corey missed my 26th birthday, we decided to make a wish and blow out the candles together. We are so happy that we never have to miss another birthday, another holiday or another celebration ever again!

After I got home from work and Corey got home from the Angel game, we went to O'Malleys for some birthday drinks. It was great to have some of our friends and family to come out and celebrate with us. On Corey's birthday last year, he was deployed and it was a rather lonely day. I was so happy to, with the help of friends and family, be able to give him such a special day this year. I love you Corey!!!!!
