Yes, we drove directly into a storm zone. Not 2 hours earlier we had awoken to a beautiful sunshiney day in Orange County. I blissfully packed some sundresses and flip flops and skipped to the car with my beloved. I had no idea that the weather would be so drastically different just an hour down south. We checked into the hotel and headed over to the spa for some blissful massages that almost made us forget that it was pouring...until we walked outside into hurricane force winds. This is the only picture of us that I have of that day. Yes, it was taken in our bathroom before we headed out to dinner. We got soaked running out to our car (no, of course I did not pack an umbrella) and didn't even bother asking the waitress to take our rain-soaked picture at the delicious Italian restaurant we went to called Vigilucci's.
The sun was shining in the morning on our second day but with a cold breeze. I had not packed proper attire so the best I could do was put on my long sundress with a cardigan and hope for the best. The Marriott resort was really pretty with adirondack chairs and walkways along the bay and multiples swimming pools. It was too bad it was so cold, rainy and overcast 90% of our weekend.
Corey and I headed out to experience the Coronado Brewing Company for some lunch and beer. The ambiance of the restaurant brewery was amazing, the beers were delicious but the food was lacking (in my opinion).
After lunch, the clouds rolled in again and it became overcast. We hurried over to the Hotel Del Coronado so that we could check it out before the rain began again. I read about it prior to our trip and it absolutely fascinated me. It opened in 1888 and was the first resort to use electrical lighting designed and inspected by Thomas Edison! Im a sucker for a place with a rich history. The architecture is beautiful and knowing that the hotel has been receiving guests for over 120 years is pretty amazing.
Corey and I walked the grounds (shivering)and browsed the shops. We had some pizza for dinner with such horrible service that I will not even mention the place. The Academy Awards were on that night and Corey was starring in The Hurt Locker (????) so we sat in a bar, drank some beer and watched the last hour of the show.
All in all, weather aside, we had a great weekend. Things didn't go as planned but we were flexible, came up with new plans to fit the circumstances and made the best of it...not to be all cheesy and lame, but that sounds like a metaphor for marriage, does it not?
