RIP Lil' Focus, Long-Live Corey!

If you have not heard, Corey was involved in a serious hit and run car accident last week. He was at the intersection where our house is when a car ran a red light and slammed into his beloved 2000 Ford Focus. His bumper was ripped off and flew through the air hitting a light post. To make matters worse, the car that hit Corey kept on going. Luckily, there were 2 Good Samaritans at the red light who saw everything. The first followed the car, wrote the license plate number down and came back to Corey to make a statement to the police. The second Good Samaritan followed the car nearly ten miles! He called the police three cities away and let them know that he was following a car that had just hit and run and he suspected the driver was under the influence. The police came and arrested the driver who, unfortunately, was very intoxicated. The Good Samaritan then drove all the way back to the scene of the accident and gave a statement to the police. Corey and I were floored by the willingness to help shown to us by these strangers. When I arrived at the scene, bits of Corey's car were strewn all over the intersection. Thankfully, Corey suffered no major injuries. His shoulder, neck and back are slightly sore but no harm beyond that. The police on scene said that if Corey's car had been slightly further in the intersection, he would have been T-boned and most likely seriously injured. We are so grateful that Corey was protected. The other driver was fully insured which we are also grateful for. The insurance estimated the damage to his Ford Focus to be at least $8,000 dollars. We are certain it will be considered a total loss as his car is not worth that much. This is bittersweet as we were hoping to get a new car in the next year when Corey graduates from the police academy. We were not quite prepared to do it just yet both emotionally and financially. We had planned on replacing my 1996 Dodge Neon (NOT the 2000 Focus as it is our newer car :) before this accident. It looks like we will need to replace 2 cars in the next year as my Neon does not have many more miles left in him... We are just so glad that neither Corey nor the driver (nor anyone else!) were seriously injured that night...

God must really love Corey! My thought is that, that focus was a horrible color and no one as good looking as Corey should be seen in it. You should by him a BMW just for being so good looking and for not dying in the crash! Ps Corey cant die until he makes me the breakfast that he owes me!
