The Best Bread Baker in Garden Grove

In January, Corey began a journey. He had been talking about baking his own bread for at least a year. Every time we bought bread at the grocery store he would tell me that he wanted to make his own bread. I came home one day to see packages of yeast, a bag of organic whole wheat flour and honey on the counter. When I went to find Corey, I found him sitting on the couch wearing his Angels apron, watching YouTube videos on how to bake your own bread from scratch.

He looked like a man on a mission.  He said he was ready. He was ready to fulfill his dream of becoming "The Best Bread Baker in Garden Grove." (Obviously these were his words, not mine. ) He re-tied his apron, scrubbed his hands and took a few deep breaths. Corey always entertains me- I was laughing so hard. He was in deep concentration as he followed the video's step-by-step instructions. It was touch and go for a minute when it came time for the yeast to show us it was alive. We stared at the bowl of warm water. My brow began to sweat as the minutes were ticking by and there were no bubbles to be seen. Corey remained calm, confident in his ability to follow a YouTube video. At last, the bubbling began and it was all smooth-sailing from there. I have to be honest. Even though it was fun to tease Corey about his desire to be Amish, watching the dough rise was pretty cool. As I began to smell the sweet scent of bread in the oven, I was hooked! Our home smelled divine!

There she is. Corey's dream come true. There really was something magical about eating the dense, warm, honey-wheat bread fresh out of the oven. How was it with butter? Amazing! How was it when paired with peanut butter and jelly? Yummy in my Tummy. How was it when made into a grilled cheese sandwich? A gift from heaven. I really am married to the Best Bread Baker in all of Garden Grove.
