For our 3rd anniversary, I planned a little surprise for Corey. We were unable to go out of town like we did for our 1st and 2nd anniversaries. Our work and school schedules were out of control and there was just no time. Corey and I both had to work the evening of our actual anniversary on March 8th, so I decided to surprise him on March 7th. While he was at school, I shopped for a picnic lunch and loaded the car with supplies. When he got home, I suggested that we go to lunch and away we went. I planned a day of activities in Rancho Palos Verdes. I picked a picnic spot that promised to be perfect for whale watching. I printed out directions for several trailheads for hiking and planned to go down to the tidepools. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate.
I didn't tell Corey where we were going or what we were doing but he kept coming up with different guesses. Among these guesses included: doing yoga, going to LA, going on a cruise, doing kung fu, going to Catalina and picking someone up from LAX. Kung fu, Corey? Really? We have always talked about going to Rancho Palos Verdes together but never had. It was so pretty- it reminds me of the Central Coast. Our picnic was delicious and the view was gorgeous. But the wind nearly blew us off the bluff. Usually from this spot, you can see at least 2 whales per hour migrate down the coast. The wind did not create optimal whale-watching conditions. The high-wind advisory meant that the tidepools were not happening and that the hikes along the bluffs would require far more clothing than I had packed. It looks sunny but, trust me, it was frickin' freezing.
After enjoying a yummy picnic and surviving the elements, we drove along the coast and bypassed the other planned activities. After driving the coast for a few hours and getting a smidge lost, we went back to the house. We had a yummy wine and cheese night followed by a fondue finale. It was my first time making chocolate fondue and it turned out so well. If I had known that chocolate fondue was this easy to make, I would be at least ten pounds heavier by now. I am working on that as we speak. I love this man and I love our life. I feel so blessed.
Dear God, Thank you for Corey. And fondue. Love, Laura
