Corey and I recently celebrated our one year anniversary. We were desperate to get out of town for a few days so we decided to drive up to the Central Coast and spend some time in the San Luis Obispo area. We got there on Thursday evening and after checking into our hotel decided to go to the Farmer's Market on Higuera Street. It was very crowded but very cool. At every intersection there was some sort of entertainment being showcased. There were polynesian dancers (what the?), live bands, singers and and orchestras. It was so crowded that it was really difficult to capture the experience on film. There were tons of stands selling fresh produce, flowers and handmade items but there were even more stands selling food! It seemed as if every restaurant in the area had a booth showcasing one or two of their menu items: BBQ treats, soups, pastas, burritos, the list was endless. We made 2 laps up and down the street before we decided on the grilled corn on the cob. After looking at the many seasoning choices, we went with the salt and spicy cheese...
Corey was thoroughly impressed with his choice.
I concurred.
Afterward, we headed over to The Firestone Grill which was one of our "must eat at" spots suggested by friends. (Yes, my Bachelor fans, as in the Andrew Firestone of wine and tire fame...) Apparently, the TriTip Sandwich was a "Thing." Like, the best "Thing" ever.
So Corey ordered it. And we tried it. And I came to a conclusion. The TriTip sandwich was good. But it certainly was not anything to write home to mom about in my opinion. Corey disagreed and proclaimed it the best TriTip sandwich he had ever tasted. Tomato, tahmahto. My sandwich on the other hand was definitely a "Thing." The Pig sandwich is a pulled pork BBQ sauce delite of epic proportion. So, next time you are in SLO and dine at The Firestone Grill, just say no to the TriTip and Yes, Yes, Yes to The Pig.
