Slip and Slide

Our cousin, Zachary, turned nine years old in July. Corey and I could not come up with a gift for him to save our lives. Finally, I resorted to wandering the aisles at Target in the hopes that something would jump out at me. When I saw the Slip and Slides, it was as if the heavens shone down and the angels sang! Who wouldn't want a Slip and Slide? I happily threw it into my cart and whistled my way to the checkout lanes. As I waited in line, doubt began to overtake me...my inner dialogue wondered if Slip and Slides were only appealing to children of the 1980s. I wondered if Zach and Shane even knew what a Slip and Slide was. I wondered if they even knew how to Slip and how to Slide? I drove home with my treasure but was filled with uncertainty. When I showed it to Corey, he was overcome! He declared it to be the best gift ever. I gently reminded him that it was not his gift. He reassured me that he knew and that they boys would love it! I believe he even stated, "I mean, who wouldn't want a Slip and Slide???"

The Slip and Slide was met with enthusiasm... after we explained to Zach and Shane what a Slip and Slide was, that is. No matter, those boys were ready to set it up and give it a go! After several attempts down the tarp were filled with bruises and exclamations of "OW!" it became clear that Corey needed to suit up and show them how it was done. Zachary insisted on putting on a tshirt to aid in the sliding process but once he did, the kid was golden! He showed great potential- a Slip and Slide prodigy if you will. Shane needed a bit more help. We tried to explain that he needed to SLIDE on his belly, not DROP to his knees! He was not convinced. Corey dragged him across the tarp several times so he could get the feeling of sliding... let's just say, it didn't work out. We came to the conclusion that Slip and Slides might be a little too archaeic for this next generation of kids. The good news is that the water balloons we brought have decidedly NOT gone out of style and were met with the enthusiasm of a child of the '80s!

I may be biased, but aren't these three boys the cutest three boys that you ever did see?

HA!!! The famous slip and slide! The best part about it is that you were there in the event of a broken arm! They had fun and yes, they are the cutest little Riggins people I've ever seen...ok Corey not so little anymore... :)
