WestPac Homecoming 2007

Corey returned to Pearl Harbor on November 8, 2007. This was his second six month deployment while aboard the USS Los Angeles and he had much more responsibility this time around due to his rank as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. I cannot imagine being on a submarine for six months and going months without seeing the sun. He is so strong and I am so proud of all that he has accomplished. During his deployment, I missed him more than I could ever imagine missing someone. I was able to be at the pier when his submarine pulled in. It was an incredibly emotional experience for both of us. I went on a boat with the other families of the sailors to meet the sub as it pulled up to the entrance to the harbor. As he pulled closer, my heart nearly burst with the anticipation. We met them and pulled into Pearl, side by side. We headed straight towards a huge rainbow extending over the entire harbor. Our boat docked just ahead of them. As we waited on the pier, the other ships and boats in the harbor sounded their horns, honoring the Los Angeles. Corey was on the bridge of the sub as the lookout. He had binoculars and says he saw me way before I saw him. As the boat docked, we made eye contact, smiled and I immediately teared up. Corey has almost completed his five years in the Navy and the end of this deployment marked the end of our life apart. When he stepped off the sub, he pulled me close, kissed me and whispered into my ear, "I'm never leaving you again, Sweetheart."
